2023 Yamaha YZF

Jul 23, 2023Jul 23, 2023

In 2023, Yamaha's middleweight superbike only gets more refined, and a new, intense livery also keeps things fresh for the eyes.

In 2022, Yamaha Motorcycles introduced a new player in the extremely-competitive middleweight superbike segment. Gone was the incredibly popular R6, and the YZF750 as well, and in their place, the new-generation YZF- R7 arrived in all its glory. Instead of riding on the four-cylinder engine the Yamaha R6 did, the 2022 Yamaha R7 rode on a dual-cylinder motor, and boy were we skeptical. Of course, over two model years now, the YZF-R7 has proven to be a fantastic superbike, and one that can even hold its own against the liter-class. The first Yamaha R7 this side of the century, the 2022 Yamaha R7 has definitely left riders and critics equally impressed.

There is no denying that the new Yamaha YZF-R7 is a breath of fresh air in the motorcycle market, and we're all for it. Not only does it prove to be a great competitor to the likes of the Kawasaki Ninja 650 or the CBR 650RR from Honda, but it also carves out its own place in the impressive and stacked Yamaha sports motorcycles lineup. That said, here is everything you should know about the 2023 Yamaha YZF-R7, and who knows, by the time you're done, you just might end up wanting to bring one home.

In order to present the most accurate information regarding the Yamaha YZF-R7's pricing, specification, and engine, we have compiled data from the motorcycle's webpage on the official Yamaha Motorsports website.

This new avatar of Yamaha's 700cc supersport motorcycle boasts not just a twin-cylinder 689cc liquid-cooled engine, but also an assist-and-slipper clutch. When it comes to the riding experience of the 2022 Yamaha R7, be it on the interstate or on the track, that new clutch goes a very long way, thanks to smooth upshifts and downshifts. In fact, those smooth shifts prove to be a boon when a corner comes up, and you have to drop from fifth to second in a matter of seconds. With that said, the Yamaha YZF-R7 is certifiably a great track toy, one that puts all of its 49.4 lb-ft of torque to fantastic use. The 2022 Yamaha YZF-R7 produces 72.4 horsepower and 49.4 lb-ft of torque, and so does the latest 2023 model of this Yamaha motorcycle.

When you take the new Yamaha R7 to public roads, the ample 72-hp figure would come in quite handy, especially as you feel the superbike begin pulling away, leaving every other vehicle behind. Of course, the Yamaha YZF-R7 top speed is 143 mph, but it is not something you could truly experience on the interstate, nor would we recommend you to. That's what the weekend track days are for, and when that time comes, boy does the R7 shine bright. If you're wondering whether the Yamaha YZF-R7 is a beginner-friendly superbike, you could, in fact, go for it as a beginner. That is because this isn't an inline-four-powered horsepower beast like the R6, but rather a cool and confident motorcycle in its own right.

One look at the 2023 Yamaha R7, and you'd know immediately that it is as sleek as can be for such a powerful and track-ready machine. We're definitely fans of the front fascia, with the sleek new LED headlamps that cut a lovely figure in the rearview mirror. Of course, the 2023 Yamaha YZF-R7 horsepower is 72.4 hp, which means that it won't be in a lot of rearview mirrors for very long. The fuel tank of the R7 boasts quite deep knee recesses for when you're going flat out on the straights. If you're wondering whether the ride height of the new Yamaha YZF-R7 would be a problem, the motorcycle's seat height sits at barely 33 inches, so most of the Yamaha bike's riders should be comfortably able to place both their feet on the ground at red lights. If not, well, you could always tiptoe till the lights go green.

The 2023 Yamaha YZF-R7, for all its power, doesn't compromise on features, and you won't feel that it does, either. First off, the stacked dual-LED headlights not only look absolutely phenomenal and modern, but they are also adaptive. This means that the headlamps shine the light exactly where you need them when you're going into curves or turns, by reading the Yamaha motorcycle's lean angles. We're also impressed by the 2023 Yamaha R7's all-new Monocross single-shock design, which brings down the bike's overall weight. Of course, the star of the show is the full-LCD, full-color 3.5-inch display for the bike's instrument cluster.

We have already talked about the new Assist & Slipper clutch that the Yamaha YZF-R7 utilizes well, and if you want, you could even shell out some extra bucks for an optional Quick Shift System that vastly improves the smoothness and speed of the Yamaha sports bike's upshifts. This Quick Shift System adjusts engine output on the fly, in accordance with the ECU's calculations, every time the shift-rod sensor detects movement on the gear lever. The result? The engaged gear's drive torque is canceled, consequently giving the rider smoother and quick gear changes.
